Become a respite family
This is the first step in becoming approved to provide respite for foster families with CCFYS. During this time, you will hear about the vision and mission of CCYFS, how we started and where we are today, You will also be given information regarding state policies, as well as this policies specific to fostering/respiting with Crescent City Youth and Family Services. You will not be able to attend any further training with CCYFS or begin your home study until you have attended this session.
SUBMIT YOUR INITIAL PAPERWORK APPLICATION
This paperwork includes your initial application as well as information for DFPS screenings, financial verification and any prior service history of fostering or adopting. Your home study cannot begin until we have this paperwork and your background screening is clear. Completed paperwork can be returned to our office or emailed to email@example.com
COMPLETE FOSTER CARE TRAINING
This training is a state-required course to prepare you to meed the needs of children in foster care. This training is led by our Executive Director, Family Care Specialist, Family Development Director and other CCYFS staff. Topics include Overview of the Department of Family and Protective Services, Impact of Trauma on child Development, Recognizing Abuse and Neglect, Managing Healthy Behaviors and much more. COMPLETE A HOME STUDY WITH A CCYFS HOME STUDY SPECIALIST
The Family Development team will schedule at least three home visits with you and help you navigate through the paperwork to complete your home study. This will include things such as family history, medical clearance and assessment, neighborhood and community information and home safety inspections. Your Family specialist will provide a check list for you and show you how to access the online system for completing paperwork efficiently.
Once all documents are complete and your home study is finalized, your file will be reviewed. Once the file is approved, your home will be officially open to provide respite care for families with CCYFS. At this time, you will be contacted by the Case Management Team at CCFYS to discuss possible placements for respite needs.
